19th August BLOG UPDATE: Marine Wildlife – not “just” whales and dolphins….

Aaaahhh, it’s good to be back in the area! I do love my whales and dolphins, but today I got my adrenalin rushes from other marine creatures. On our trip in to Santander, the ocean had so much to offer. We saw leaping tuna several times, a couple of Portuguese man of war (very poisonous colony of animals, sailing the ocean surface), a number of sunfish. Since sightings are very often connected, signs of a “boiling” ocean i.e. fish schools just under surface, also excited people today. For you marine mammal lovers, yes, we did also see whales and dolphins. I had literally only been on deck for 2 seconds, when we spotted the first fin whale. After that we had sightings of;

  • a group of Fin Whales
  • Common dolphins
  • Striped dolphins
  • Cuvier’s beaked whales
  • Pilot Whales

    • Hi Andrew!

      Thank you very much for this message! Wonderful to hear that you are also an “ocean enthusiast”! Now we can look for them every time we are on/close to the blue! Good Luck w future spotting. /Lena
